Abstract
To formulate a comprehensive and multidisciplinary model, a theoretical debate arises between the traditional approach, centered on medical indications, and the critical approach, which seeks individual autonomy. Self-management is promoted to create collaborative communities where patients, families, and professionals work together on prevention and management. Therapeutic education is key to reducing the costs of acute and chronic complications, as well as to addressing the urgent need for measures in the face of a silent epidemic of type 2 diabetes in children and adolescents.
