Abstract

Undernutrition is one more risk factor which affects our patients. Therefore it requires adequate treatment by a multidisciplinary and well prepared team, seeking nourishment without harm to the patient.

Parenteral nutrition is the administering of nutrients through a central vein, in those patients who are unable to use the digestive tract.

Technological development now offers solutions of crystalline amino acids, fat emulsions, dextrose in high concentrations, multivitamins, oligo elements and minerals, in sterile and non-toxic presentations. This paper deals with the general participation the nurse plays in this procedure.
