Technical problems in nursing transfusion of blood components
Keywords:
Transfusions, Technical problems nursingAbstract
With the purpose of identifying technical problems during transfusions of blood components in Pediatrics and to know the frequency of subreport, a cross sectional, comparative and prospective study in Hospital de Pediatría, was made. Analyzed variables were transfusion in longer or lesser time than indicated, its holding, catheter obstruction and infiltration and clinical record registration missing on the nursing sheet. Information was obtained by direct observation, interviews and medical and nursing note review. Of 140 transfusions (58 of packed red blood cells, 42 of plasma and 40 platelet concentra-tes), 14.3% corresponded to the morning schedule, 31.4% to the afternoon, 42.1% to the night and 12.2% to connection schedules. Technical problems in packed red blood cells were the prolonged time for its passage and transfusion holding, that were significantly longer (p <0.05) in plasma and during connections schedule. Advanced time was also observed more frequently in packed red blood cells and in plasma, compared with the one of the platelet concentrates (p <0.05). End transfusion time was the least omitted fact makes indispensable to have better supervision to correct them and to improve the nurse assistance quality.
