The appearance of the Journal of Nursing of the Mexican Institute of Social Security in the year 1988, represented a contribution in the march of Social Security to open a space for the development of scientific writings product of research and daily practice in nursing.
Throughout the first 10 years, works of unquestionable quality were published that favored the development of nursing, not only of the person who wrote the document, but of all those readers who were avid for scientific information who had it in their hands. The writings touched on subjects as diverse as: nursing care in the first heart transplant in Mexico; comprehensive management in the ostomized patient; the nurse and her responsibility in the control of nosocomial infections; evaluation of the quality of nursing care in hospitalization; precautions in the care of patients with AIDS; the role of the nurse in diagnostic radiology and radiotherapy; the importance of body mechanics in the daily work of the nurse; ambulatory continuous peritoneal dialysis and its projection to the community. All are examples of the contributions arising from the daily activity of the nurses of our Institute in this publication.
