Abstract

Introduction: all patients of reproductive age should receive information about their obstetric future and the benefits of family planning to their health. The objective of this study is to identify the level of knowledge and acceptance of the intrauterine device in postpartum patients.

Material and methods: measurement instrument divided into three sections: a) sociodemographic data, b) knowledge measurement and c) acceptance measurement; We studied 206 patients who were during the postpartum period assigned to six units of family medicine that correspond to the area of medical responsibility of the General Hospital of Zone 11, of Piedras Negras, Coah.

Results: average age of 25 years, secondary schooling, married marital status, housewife occupation. The average knowledge, acceptance, use and control was 47.49%; 40.87% 15.35% and 87.56% respectively.

Discussion: similar sociodemographic characteristics which allows us to suppose that there are factors associated with training that do not allow significant knowledge regarding the use of the IUD
