Abstract
Introduction: This case study applied the nursing process methodology and a comprehensive assessment based on Marjory Gordon’s functional health patterns to a pediatric patient with a Coxsackievirus infection. The aim was to identify nursing diagnoses, establish timely interventions, and evaluate outcomes to improve the quality of care, prevent complications, and enhance the well-being of the patient and their family.
Development: This case study was conducted at Child Development Center No. 6 in San Andrés Huayapan, Oaxaca de Juárez. A functional health pattern assessment tool was used with a 2-year-old male patient diagnosed with a Coxsackievirus infection. A nursing care plan was designed and implemented based on the interrelationship of the NANDA, NOC, and NIC taxonomies.
Conclusion: Alterations were identified in the health perception-management, nutritional-metabolic, and activity-exercise patterns. Regarding diagnoses related to health management, nutritional status, and respiratory patterns, the study highlights the influence of modifiable factors such as caregivers' lack of knowledge, incomplete vaccination schedules, inadequate dietary habits, and constant exposure to group settings.
