Nursing care plan applied to an adolescent patient diagnosed with acute appendicitis

Abstract

Introduction: Approximately 7% of the general population suffers from appendicitis during their
lifetime, which is why it is considered the most common surgical condition among hospital emergencies. Therefore, professional nursing analysis and judgment is required to ensure patient care based on a nursing care model and process.

Objective: Establish a nursing care plan based on the needs of an adolescent patient diagnosed
with acute appendicitis.

Methodology: The nursing care plan process was developed for an adolescent patient diagnosed
with acute appendicitis, based on the assessment of Marjory Gordon’s functional patterns and the
NANDA, NIC and NOC taxonomy.

Conclusion: After the implementation of the nursing care plan, the adolescent patient with a
diagnosis of acute appendicitis achieved a satisfactory recovery, with a favorable evolution to the specific nursing care treatment individualized to her needs. Guidance was also provided to family members on hygienic, nutritional and pharmacological measures in order to avoid complications.
