The adequate aplication of body mechanics throughout daily activities prevent laboral risks and accidents, particularly those involving the spine. These accidents cause prolonged disabilities and sometimes permanent disabilities. The consequences of such a situation trascend the Institute, affecting both the person's family and society.
Taking this into consideration, the students taking the Course of Administration for Nursing Services, carried out an investigation of spinal lesions and body mechanics. The results of this research motivated the students to elaborate this orientational manual concerning the operation of “body mechanics", directed to the nursing personnel, with the hope of avoiding and/or diminishing both risks and accidents during their daily work. This is being used in one of the programs dealing wityh promotion of health for IMSS's workers.
