Abstract

The present work describes the results of the procedure used to obtain bone marrow (BM) grafts administered to patients with severe aplastic anemia.

In the years from 1980 to 1984, they were carried out in the General Hospital of the C.M.N. of the IMSS, four multiple aspirations of OM in three healthy donors, siblings with compatible histocompatibility antigen (HLA) of the patients. For this purpose, the technique described by Thomas and Storb in 1970 was used, which allowed obtaining a sufficient number of nucleated cells for transplantation without undesirable reactions or changes in the hematological indices in the peripheral blood of the donors.

In two patients the graft was activated and only one was observed rejection of the graft on two successive occasions what apparently occurred due to a mechanism immunology).

The procedure used is discussed in detail and the factors that modify its performance are discussed; Finally, the conditions that contribute to improving the results of bone marrow transplantation are considered.
