Abstract

In this article, on the management of the ostomated patient, general aspects of the Ostomy, equipment management, more frequent complications and psychological and sexual implications are described. The importance of creating support groups is mentioned, such as the one that exists in the Oncology Hospital of the National Medical Center to help achieve the patient's rehabilitation.

As well as demonstrate some of the nursing techniques that allow to prevent complications due to mishandling or ignorance of it.

The nurse is the element of the multidisciplinary health team, which guides her to have a better quality of life: "Because the ostomized can enjoy a normal family, business and social life as long as they have the assistance of doctors, nurses and all those people involved in their care to adapt to this new way of life".
