Significant learning on women between 20 and 59 years old related to breast self-examination

Introduction: Breast cancer is an illness of social and sanitary interest due to its high growth and frequency. It is the main cause of death among women from 35 to 55 years old, being of importance in the world with prevalence on developed countries. As a result of the new demographic scenery and of the epidemic transition living in Mexico at the moment, breast cancer constitutes the second cause of mortality for malign neoplasias between women from 25 years and older. Daily it is recorded around 10 deaths for this cause which has generated the loss of an important number of years of life and a considerable economic load for multiple families.
Objective: To describe the factors that are present in women from 20 to 59 years old with significant learning related with breast self-examination.
Methodology: Cuasi experimental, multiphased design, based on population infinite n= 36 women, on City of Mitras Norte, selected for convenience for being a city with a higher percentage of breast cancer cases, and selecting the study units randomly. It was implemented an educational intervention in a session of 90 minutes trough a demonstrative exposition, under informed consent, and with respect of ethical values of charity. There was a previous and final evaluation of knowledge, and a check list previously validated by experts.
Results: 83.3% of studied population increased their knowledge and had a favorable outcome in the self examination. It was found that: 25% of women with inherit family history of breast cancer had a significant learning outcome due probably to be frightened or be conscious of this serious illness.
Conclusions: According to the agegroup there is not a significant difference related to age and significant learning, but the knowledge in the women with inherit family history of breast cancer was increased.
