A model integrating teaching with attendance and research in the Service of Continuous Admission at the Hospital de Especialidades del IMSS in Puebla is proposed. Its purpose is optimizing the nurse's training. This is based upon a diagnosis of the population's needs for attendance and its confrontation with the nurse's activities to fulfill these needs. A proposition containing all the abilities and skills for the nurse is elaborated. In the last place the content of the course is proposed and the process of integrating teaching and attendance with research is discussed so as to assure the adequate use of material and human resources in health care and attendance.
