Abstract

Introduction: changes in the traditional lifestyle of adolescents, influenced by the excessive information received regarding the early start of sexual activity, generate a greater risk to acquire sexually transmitted diseases; Therefore, the objective of this study is to establish the factors related to the adoption of measures for the practice of safe sex among adolescents between 15 and 19 years of age.

Material and methods: descriptive, cross-sectional study of 83 adolescents of both genders, from 15 to 19 years of age, with active sexual life and assigned to the Unit of Family Medicine 57 of the Mexican Institute of Social Security who were divided into two groups: the first with 47 young people who used condom during sexual intercourse (safe sex) and the second group with 36 adolescents who did not use it, variables were analyzed with X2 and odds ratio, when significance was obtained.

Results: condom use was detected in the first and last sexual intercourse, as well as family planning method, which are related to the practice of safe sex.

Discussion: the results differ from other studies in a greater proportion, with respect to the adoption of safe sex and the age of initiation of sexual relations. The use of a condom, during the first sexual intercourse, favors the adolescents to continue using it later
