Proposal to measure the relation supervision labor satisfaction in nursing

Abstract

Introduction: the supervision is an outstanding function in the labor practice since it facilitates the connection between the Managers and the operative personnel of nursing, the effectiveness of the supervisor depends on his ability to interact with the personnel. The supervision methods: the direct and the indirect, are factors  among others, that generate labor satisfaction in the operative personnel, which has an effect on the attention quality of nursing  to the users of the health services. With regard to determining the relation among the variables: direct method of supervision, indirect method of supervision and the labor satisfaction of the nursing personnel of a medical institution, a questionnaire was designed and validated.

Material and methods: the instrument with 66 reactives consists of: I) Instructions to fill it in, II) Questions that form the intervening variables, III) Variable Direct Supervision Methods, IV) Variable Indirect Supervision Methods, V) Variable labor satisfaction and VI) Space for any comment, that the inquired considers about the document or subject of research.

Results: a first proof of the instrument was carried out to 30 nurses of operative level. Once the document was corrected a second pilot proof was applied to 76 nurses of operative level, applying the statistical program SPSS 9 reliability of the instrument was gotten reporting a Cronbach alpha of 0.86 which means that it measures the relation between the supervision methods and the labor satisfaction of the  nursing personnel.

Conclusion: the instrument does measure the relationship between supervisory methods and job satisfaction of the nursing staff.
