Abstract

Scientific advances and changes in the exercise of the professions, determined by the modification of social, economic, political and cultural structures, demanded a response to the centers that train human resources for health care. In 1977 the School of Nursing and Obstetrics presented an updated Curriculum, with the purpose of combining new approaches and trends in a committed and supportive way to the health demands of the population in general and in particular to the marginal and majority groups.

The change of Study Plan implies, in turn, a reconceptualization of the teaching and practice of nursing, until then dependent on knowledge and medical work, in search of a new professional image that would open the possibilities of participating as a responsible element and able within the work team.

We know well that every change implies crisis, paralysis or regression; either by resistance to change, evasion or insecurity in the face of difficulties posed by the material and / or social environment or by the individual himself. However, it was necessary to take the risk.
