The results that are presented below are part of the research entitled "Synchronic, Diachronic and Prospective Study of the Nursing Branch in the Country", which was published in 1987, which was the National Directory of Schools and Faculties of Nursing. The main motivation that led to the study, was the lack of mechanisms that allow to have data that leads to a rational planning of the human resource of nursing, both in its training as in its use and distribution.
As a consequence of what was expressed in the previous paragraph, it should be noted that there is no information system in the entire national territory that offers systematized documentation to the profession of nurse to analyze and make decisions about the integral educational process of nursing. In this context, the General Directorate for Health Education and the "Ad Hoc" Nursing Group of the Interinstitutional Commission for the Training of Human Resources for Health, proposed to carry out a general study of the prevailing situation in the teaching of The infirmary; also taking advantage of the opportunity offered by the Pan American Health Organization to carry out a study on the practice and training of nursing personnel in the Pals. The results obtained show, in some way, the problematic situation that characterizes the formation of human resources in the area. It should be noted that for the realization of the study, faced difficulties to timely count on the information required of each and every one of the Educational Institutions.
The problem mentioned above is explained in part because there is no national or state-level nursing organization that collects and processes the data. On the other hand, there is not enough collaboration from schools, mainly private ones, which increases the difficulty to obtain information. It is to be expected, however, that the results that are now presented are useful, not only for the nursing staff, but for everyone who is directly and indirectly involved with the planning of human resources for health.
